These systems work by displaying a multitude of LED lights onto an image to identify it. The lights are only visible to the camera itself. During the day the images will appear in color, but at night they turn to black and white images since there is very little light present. However, even with limited light these devices deliver clear pictures.
As with anything else that you shop for, there is a wide selection of makes and models to choose from. Many of them are based on budget, although you can still get a decent system for a reasonable amount of money. But if you want to spend more for higher end merchandise it can be considered a good investment.
Some of the things that you want to look at when you are shopping for your setup include the field of vision. This will be determined by the setup of your home and how much area you want to monitor. A typical setup will cover an area of 25 to 30 feet adequately without losing much to detail. Anything over that and you will have to look for an upgraded component.
If you are looking to keep an eye on a uniquely shaped area you may have to go with a model that pans, or moves from one side to the other, and has the ability to zoom in. These are called PTZ models. Otherwise, the typical fixed lens will work fine.
Another important factor to consider is the LUX rating. This refers to how the images appear with limited lighting. This decision will be based on the position of the device and how much light will be present a majority of the time. If there is little or no light available throughout the month then you will want to go with a model that has a higher LUX rating. Otherwise, your images will not be clear enough to be distinguishable.
Your infrared surveillance cameras also need to have a high pixel count for better resolution. The higher the count, the better the clarity of the picture. Even if you opt for a less expensive setup you can still get a good one for a reasonable amount as long as you focus on resolution as your top priority.
